David Blyth is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over 40 years’ experience supporting adults, couples, families, and teens. He holds a Master of Social Work and has pursued continuous professional development for over 40 years, ensuring his practice is grounded in the latest evidence-based methods.
David treats depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, loss, grief and bereavement with a strong focus on trauma-informed therapy. With eating disorders, David may be included on a GP Eating Disorder Plan. He works with clients who have experienced significant emotional or relational trauma, guiding them to process difficult life events and develop self-safety towards a better quality of life.
Having worked in diverse settings – from public mental health services to private practice – David has extensive experience with adolescents, young adults, and families facing complex mental health and relationship challenges. His expertise in family therapy supports families in distress by rebuilding trust, improving communication, and establishing healthier relationships. He also provides guidance to carers, helping them support loved ones facing physical and mental health issues and end of life care.
As a marriage and couples therapist, David is passionate about strengthening connections and building resilience. He draws on Gottman Couples Therapy, a research-based method known for enhancing communication and deepedning emotional connection, to support couples in building skills to strengthen conflict resolution, increase commitment and trust, restore intimacy, and create safety and mutual understanding to heal past and present trauma.
