Rochelle Dawson
Profession Experience
For 9 years I have been counselling individuals and families, both short and long term.
Beside counselling at Bridges Counselling, I work as a Student Wellbeing Co-ordinator at a local high school, working with parents, teachers and students.
Areas of Specialisation
My speciality is individual counselling, women and teenagers. This includes working with:
- Abuse
- Adolescents
- Parent issues
- Anxiety and depression
- Eating disorders
- Grief and loss
- Relationship issues
- Self esteem issues
- Self harm
- Sexual abuse
- Teenagers
- Trauma (including PTSD)
For several years I have tutored and lectured for the Australian Institute of Family Counselling.
I have accepted a number of invitations to organise, lead and speak at a variety of community events on such topics as ‘Positive Self Esteem and Body Image’ and ‘Healthy Communication and Relationships’, ’Dealing with Grief’, ‘Stress Management’ and ‘Resilience’.
How I approach counselling and psychotherapy
I have had extensive counselling practice experience over the past 9 years gaining a great appreciation and knowledge of the pressures and stresses on individuals, including a range of mental health issues working with clients ranging from teenagers on.
Over the past 9 years, I have become educated about a range of issues particularly affecting women today including bullying, relationships, communication skills, emotional regulation, trauma, grief, self esteem and body image issues that may later result in eating disorders, self injury and depression. In practice, I have worked closely with colleagues in team settings and liaise with outside professionals such as local doctors, dieticians, psychologists and psychiatrists.
I like to encourage others to find their strengths and realise their potential.
Clients will receive professional and competent service and be treated with respect. Confidentiality and privacy will be maintained at all times.
