- Individual and Relationship Counsellor, Psychotherapist
- Bachelor of Counselling (UNE)
- Registered Clinical Member - PACFA
- Clinical Member - APC
I have been working as a counsellor since 1991, having extensive training in Gestalt, Solution Focussed Therapy, and Emotionally Focussed Therapy.
I currently have two major interests:
- Relationship Counselling: This past year I have done some additional training to work long term or short term specifically with couples. I love working with what is “between” the couple, and working with them individually so that each can see what they bring as a cause and an effect, into the relationship.
- Grief and Loss, I am currently on the call register for Bonnie Babes Inc, and until it disbanded, I was on the call roster for Grief Support Inc. Both these groups support people who are grieving. I enjoy using a range of different modalities with each client, using whichever seems to be the best way forward for each individual. See my Counselling Topic, What is the Grief Process?
The areas I have an interest in are:
- Grief and loss
- Transitions – adolescent/Adult, retirement, “empty nesters”, migration /re-settlement issues.
- Relationship Issues
- Anxiety/Depression
- Missionary debriefing/assessment
- Twinless twins (whether by death as an infant, child or adult, or pre-natally) (I am a “twinless twin”)
Post Session interactions with clients
My clients will be given my mobile number, and I will return any call as soon as practicable. Each person reacts differently to each session and, after a session it may be that you notice things which you need to talk about. Do write down what your concern is, so that it can be used as a “jumping off” point for the next session. You may find it helpful to begin a journal and write down your thoughts and reactions in that, and bring it to each session. Please ring if you cannot wait for the next session.
Fees
My fee is $80 per hour, and after 5pm or Saturdays, it is $100. After discussion, I am sometimes able to reduce my scale of fees for the unwaged. If you cancel your appointment giving less than 8 hours notice, or do not show up, generally speaking you will need to pay the full fee. Unfortunately, these fees are unable to be claimed from Medicare, although negotiations between our peak Body and the relevant Government Departments are under way. To claim from Medicare you need to have a diagnosable Mental Health illness. Very few Health Insurance Funds allows claims for counselling but please check with your Health Fund to see if you are able to make a claim.
Confidentiality
All counselling is confidential. I will be discussing your issues with a supervisor (de-identified i.e. no names) and no one else. To keep accreditation, each counsellor needs to see a Supervisor at least monthly. The only time I will need to contact others about any matters of concern, is where I think that either yourself, or someone else, is in danger. I would only do that after discussion with you. Your personal details and any other information about you, will be kept on file in locked cupboards, filing cabinet. |
