How I approach Counselling
For people who come willingly to work through their areas of difficulty, I have a lot of respect.
I truly believe that everyone has the strength and ability within themselves to overcome adversity. With the right support and counselling I can help you set goals and achieve them.
My work with clients is a compilation of strengths based and solutions focussed therapies. I use expressive therapy tools with children such as narrative therapy and art therapy. Utilising knowledge of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is core to my work with clients. My practice is also trauma and attachment informed.
I have been working with children and families in some of the most vulnerable of circumstances since 2009 – in particular, with a FaCS funded program called the Brighter futures program offering services to children and their parents to overcome adversity.
I have particular experience working with families who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, grief, drug and alcohol dependence, chronic mental health issues and disability.
I also have experience leading adult education seminars and parenting programs; both to small groups and to large audiences. These seminars and groups have been educational; psycho-educational, and therapeutic in nature.
I have taught at TAFE for short courses in case management skills, and in community for a number of different topics including; group facilitation skills, parenting education, mindfulness, behaviour management, attachment and relationship development, and self-care and self-development.
My fee is $150 per session, usually between 50-60 min, and payment is made on the day of the appointment.
I am Medicare accredited with clients who have a Mental Health Care Plan obtained from their GP. The Medicare rebate is $84.80 per session for 6 to 10 sessions per calendar year.
